FIFA 2014 winner Mesut Ozil quits international football after facing racism!

by Unik Dhandhi, Wednesday, July 25, 2018

As heartbreaking as it sounds, Germany's most talented midfielder Mesut Ozil steps down from International football after facing racism by German media and critics on 22nd of July 2018. Soon after the conclusion of FIFA 2018, Mesut revealed this unfortunate news to the world.

2014 World Cup winner Mesut Ozil made the announcement by posting the same on social media website, Twitter through his official account. Ozil's tweet said: "I no longer want to wear the German national team shirt. I think what I have achieved since my international debut in 2009 has been forgotten."

It is pretty obvious that a football player has to retire at one point or the other and so would Mesut Ozil but no one expected it to happen like this. Mesut Ozil is a Turkish-German based football player who also has a Turkish accent.

But the internet broke with racist comments when Mesut met Turkish president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan in May this year. He was constantly made to feel like an outsider in his own country, Germany.

English club Arsenal's football player, Mesut revealed what hurt him the most, by saying: "If a newspaper or a pundit finds faults in a game I play in, then I can accept this. I am not a perfect footballer but what can't accept is German media outlets repeatedly questioning my dual heritage."

"For me, having a picture with President Erdoğan wasn’t about politics or elections, it was about me respecting the highest office of my family’s country," added Ozil.

In his post, Mesut expressed his anger by writing: "People with racially discriminative backgrounds should not be allowed to work in the largest football federation in the world that has players from dual‑heritage families. In the eyes of Grindel and his supporters, I am German when we win but I am an immigrant when we lose."

Mesut's note concluded as: "It is with a heavy heart and after much consideration that because of recent events I will no longer be playing for Germany at international level whilst I have this feeling of racism and disrespect. This is not why I play football I will not sit back and do nothing about it. Racism should never, ever be accepted."

The guy who held the World Cup trophy for the German football team is no more a part of the international football on account of racism; devastating it is! Stay tuned for more sports related updates.Follow our Bollywood Magazine For Latest Bollywood News and Gossips.
