Suzuki Burgman Street 125: Is it too soon to launch a 'luxurious scootie' in India?

by Unik Dhandhi, Sunday, July 22, 2018

India's first-ever maxi scooter, Suzuki Burgman has finally launched in India. After revealing the Burgman in Auto Expo 2018, Suzuki made its mind; either it is now or never to introduce a premium scooter in Indian market.

India is one of the countries which have a fast-selling scooter market and hence, all the manufacturers are trying their best for producing a state-of-the-art, fully-equipped scooter. Finally, Suzuki became the first-one to introduce such an eccentric product.

For all those who missed the Burgman in 2018 Auto Expo, here is everything you need to know about this premium scootie:

After Access 125, Burgman is Suzuki's second scooter with a 125 cc scooter in India. As per its name, Burgman got its name and design from the bigger Burgman models. Despite being equipped with the same 125 cc engine as that of Access 125, Burgman will be a better performing vehicle than the Access. And the reason behind Burgman's better performing abilities than Access 125 lies in the tuning of the engine. The engine in the Burgman is tuned for 8.5 bhp at 6,500 rpm and 10.2 Nm of peak torque at 5,000 rpm.

The main selling quotient of this vehicle is its fully-loaded features. The Suzuki Burgman comes with features like an LED headlamp, tall windscreen, LCD instrument cluster, and LED position tail lights. In fact, the company claims that Burgman will offer a high ride-quality.

Fuel Efficiency

A renowned name in scooter manufacturing industry, Honda has been on top of the game with its best selling Activa, Aviator and more. Where Honda's Activa claims to cover a whooping 60 kms in a litre, Suzuki Burgman's claimed average is 53.5 kmpl. Briefly speaking, we do not think that it is much of a difference considering the overall stats

Price Range

Priced at 68K INR, Burgman is not one of the cheapest scooters but has a lot to offer in its respective price tag. The Suzui Burgman Street 125 is priced at a premium of Rs. 10,000 over its competition, which includes the TVS NTorq, Honda Grazia and also the Suzuki Access.

India's first premium scooter, Suzuki Burgman will surely catch the eye of thousands of Indian consumers but is it enough to defeat the loyal fan-following of its competitors? Stay tuned for more technology related updates.
