Despite the fact that the show must go on, over the years, cancer has been one such battle which many of our beloved Indian actors has fought and how.
Here's a list of heroes who inspire us every day to stay on the battlefield of life regardless of the biggest of our problems.
Actor-director Rakesh Roshan has recently been diagnosed with on an early stage of squamous cell carcinoma, one of the various types of throat cancer. His daughter Sunaina Roshan is also a brave cancer survivor as she fought and survived cervical cancer, few years ago. Apart from his amazing acting career, Rakesh is well known for directing films like Kishen Kanhaiya, Karan Arjun, Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai, Koi… Mil Gaya and the superhero Krrish film series.
Sometimes, when you least expect it, life throws you a curveball. I have recently been diagnosed with a high grade cancer that has metastised, which we frankly did not see coming. A niggling pain led to some tests, which led to this unexpected diagnosis. My family and close friends have rallied around me, providing the best support system that anyone can ask for. I am very blessed and thankful for each of them. There is no better way to tackle this, than to take swift and immediate action. And so, as advised by my doctors, I am currently undergoing a course of treatment in New York. We remain optimistic and I am determined to fight every step of the way. What has helped has been the immense outpouring of love and support I’ve received over the past few days, for which I am very grateful. I’m taking this battle head on, knowing I have the strength of my family and friends behind me.

Few months ago a post on her Instragram revealing about her Metastatic Cancer, left all her fan in a state of shock. The actress is currently getting her treatments done in New York.
Irrfan Khan was at the peak of his career when he left the entire nation in shock by announcing about his Neuroendocrine tumour in March'18. The actor is currently at London completing his treatments for the same. He has been living abroad since a while due to his on-going treatment but he keeps visiting India once in a while for work purposes, without letting anyone know. Few months ago, he stated, “It’s been quite some time now since I have been diagnosed with a high-grade neuroendocrine cancer. This new name in my vocabulary, I got to know, was rare, and due to fewer study cases, and less information comparatively, the unpredictability of the treatment was more. I was part of a trial-and-error game.”
Nepali beauty, Manisha Koirala at the age of 42, was diagnosed with ovarian cancer for which she got fully-treated in New York. After numerous surgeries and chemo therapies, Manisha was declared completely cancer-free in 2015 and came out of it like a hearo. She made her rocking come back in the films last year with super hit movie, Sanju, where she played the role of late Nargis Dutt. Previously she has made her mark in Bollywood with films like Dil Se, Bombay, and Lajja to name a few.
The stunning Indian-born actress Lisa Ray declared in 2009 that she has been diagnosed with Myeloma (a rare type of blood cancer). She kept herself out of the limelight and towards the end of 2010, made a public announcement saying she had a full stem cell replacement and was cancer-free. However, she's not fully cured as the type of cancer is highly-troubling.
Late beloved mother of Sanjay Dutt and a former Bollywood actress Nargis Dutt was diagnosed with cancer. After battling for almost a year, she couldn't survive due to the same. She was being treated in New York and lost her battle with cancer a week before her son’s debut film Rocky. Nargis used to rule the Hindi cinema back in 1940's and 50s.
The evergreen beauty Mumtaz who has worked in films like Do Raaste, Chor Machaye Shor, Aag, Khilona, Aadmi aur Insaan, Upaasna and many more was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 54. She was a real warrior who fought this life-threatening disease for almost 11 years but unfortunately couldn't survive any longer. She also got featured in the UniGlobe Entertainments documentary on cancer survival called ‘1 Minute’.
