Polar Review: Netflix original movie helmed by Jonas Akerlund barely survives!

Swedish director Jonas Akerlund who is known for his eccentric music videos, has made his debut with a frightening tale of a hitman named Duncan. Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen as Duncan aka Black Kaiser has reached his age of retirement after serving for several decades under the CEO of a hitmen syndicate, Blut essayed by Small Apartments actor Matt Lucas.

Netflix original Polar which is based on a comic-series of the same name, begins with the introduction of rather crazy cast of the film including the lead Duncan Vizla (Mikkelsen), Camille (Vanessa Hudgens), Vivian (Katheryn Winnick), Hilde (Fie Ren), Sindy (Ruby O. Fee), Blut (Matt Lucas) and Karl (Robert Maillet) among others. As per its trailer, Polar looked visually stunning and engaging. Unfortunately, Jonas directorial is a sadistic tale about Duncan's life and how he is better dead.

The movie begins as former assassin Duncan has reached 50 years of his life. And as per the T&C of his hitmen syndicate which is owned by Blut, Duncan (Mads) is now entitled to peaceful retirement and eight million dollars.

However, the owner of Duncan's syndicate, Blut plans the assassination of Vizla in order to bail out on giving $ 8 million to the 50-year-old ferocious hitman. Let's be honest, this is not the first-time when we are witnessing the life of a hitman on the silver screen.

And therefore, Jonas' creativity gets neglected and misleads audience into an extremely violent and adulterated visual content. The climax of the movie is rather predictable.

There is a lot of nudity in the movie and hence, it's a 'no-no' for kids without adult supervision. Endless gunshots, insane love-making and crass characters; is what Netflix's recently released action-thriller movie is all about.

Hands down on the performance of Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen for giving life to the character of Duncan Vizla in Akerlund's directorial.

In short, there is nothing in the movie besides Mikkelsen's performance as a ferocious and well-aged hitman, Black Kaiser aka Duncan Vizla. As per our final verdict, we will like to award 3 out of 10 awards to the Netflix original movie, Polar.
