British fashion designer Alice Temperley seems to be continuously saying the best is yet to come with every season. Her label’s Winter 2017 runway collection Painted Dreams brings an unexpected twist with its delicate high necks and ruffles and prints from the bizarre world of surrealism. It has everything you and your family’s ideal winter wedding will ever need.
A play on the feminine and masculine is a constant thread throughout.
As the label acknowledges, precise and measured, the waisted silhouettes acknowledge 1950’s couture whilst giving a new, polished edge. While the regally royal collection takes on a subtle mixture of both feminine and masculine portraiture, it also plays with the fabrics and cuts to introduce some lightness and some seduction.
The Geisha Lips
Evoking the world of fantasy and class, these pieces are accented by the red Geisha lips. The white conceal-reveal lace dress is an artful update featuring leaf details, a cutout bodice and scalloped edges. The rose quartz Porcelain Dinner Scarf encapsulates bohemian winter flair.
Elsa and Tiaras
The A-line silhouette Elsa Skirt looks best with the colour co-ordinating Shade Knit jumper or the button down embellished button top from the collection. The flattering box pleats and front slip pockets makes for one crisp day or evening wear. The Tiara jumpsuit is embellished with Japanese cup sequins and features plunging neckline and flared legs for a glistening evening style.
Parchment and Peacock
The woollen Parchment Coat is a true example of clean, collarless style that one can wear throughout the season. Team it with the Parchment Layered Skirt that features matching thread embroidery inspired by antique Chinese designs. The Peacock shirt and skirt are shaped from aubergine-hued cotton and also boasts of artistic thread work embroidery to capture the artful mood of winter.
For a romantic evening, go for the off shoulder Calligraphy dress dotted with red embroidered lips and gathered at the neck with smocked black bodice. The boldly printed silk shantung peacock blue shirt dress will accentuate your waist with its 50s-inspired box pleats.
Somehow, there are ways to bring these beautiful creatures back, thanks to Temperley’s textural play on these numbers. The black Dragon Coat combines silk-satin quilt with tailoring wool for a perfect cover up. With its square neckline, this unique rose quartz evening dress takes inspiration from antique corsetry techniques just like the iris-hued Dragon skirt. The A-line silhouette also features an inverted pleat resembling that of a Samurai costume. Pair up with a knit jumper for quite an evening entrance.
