End of a Golden Era: Shashi Kapoor's filmography


An actor with a charismatic personality known as a pure gentleman, belonging to the illustrious Kapoor family clan, Shashi Kapoor set the bar even higher in the film industry. Sadly, the romantic screen icon of the 70 and early 80s, passed away in Mumbai on Monday, at the age of 79.

Son of Prithvi Raj Kapoor and brother of Raj Kapoor, faced the camera as a child artist in the 1940s then went on to debut in 1961 with Yash Chopra's Dharmputra. Needless to say that Shashi Kapoor will always be remembered forever for his brilliant choices of acting, direction and production. His hard- hitting dialogues are too hard to forget. "Mere paas Maa hai" from the 1975 film Deewar or "Yeh prem rog hai.. shuru mein dukh deta hai.. bad mein bahut dukh deta hai" from the 1982 film Namak Halaal, these lines still manage to give us the chills! Right?

The path- breaking film Deewar, tells the tale of two brothers who because of facing betrayal and struggle, end up growing into men of clashing ideologies, and find themselves standing on the opposite side of the law. Co-starring Amitabh Bachchan, the film has several remakes in south Indian languages.

After his beloved wife Jennifer passed away due to cancer in 1984, Shashi took a step back from the limelight. The more we say, it is still not enough for the ultimate charm house of Bollywood, Shashi Kapoor. We will surely miss you! RIP.
