Neeta Lulla reveals the secrets behind gorgeous Manikarnika sets and outfits

Manikarnika has hit the theatres on 25th January and we are more than excited to watch the movie. While the story of Queen Rani Laxmibai is something that is making us enthusiasts for the movie, the gorgeous costumes and royal sets are among the other reasons for our never-ending excitement. The trailer of the movie has already, left us with an open mouth through the grand sets and gobsmacking outfits.

Designer Neeta Lulla was given the task of creating the ensembles for actors including Kangana Ranaut, Ankita Lokhande, Jisshu Sengupta and Danny Denzongpa. The designer has previously achieved appreciations for historical dramas like Jodha Akbar and Devdas for which she also won a National Award for Costume Design.

A special head ornament (Mundavalya) with pearls was created for Kananga’s wedding look, which is considered the most auspicious jewellery in Maharashtrian weddings. “A special head ornament (Mundavalya) with pearls was created for Kangana’s wedding look, which is considered the most auspicious jewellery in Maharashtrian weddings. Also lot of layering is done, be it with the set of head ornaments or multiple neckpieces to pull the look together,” she explained.

“Final illustration process to bring characterisation to reel life ..a process that gives shape to the perception and thought of ‘what it should look like.’”

On a relatable note, Manikarnika is a biographical drama on the life Queen Rani LaxmiBai. The movie is being directed by Kangana and Krish and stars Kangana Ranaut in the lead role. Famous TV actress, Ankita Lokhande, will be seen making her debut in Bollywood through the movie.
