Every Indian is a born lover of the Hindi Film Industry. We thrive on good old classic Bollywood movies, which make us believe in romance, drama and emotions. A good Bollywood movie needs to be a perfect blend of drama, romance, dance and action sequences. While many try to make blockbusters, only few succeed.
We all know, that the Hindi film industry churns out about hundreds of movies, per year but only few are capable of being remembered as they leave a mark of each and every one of us. With less than 20 days of 2017, we would like to take a look back on how much Bollywood has done in the past year.
Baahubali 2: The Conclusion
The epic-fantasy-visual effect, co-written and directed by S.S. Rajamouli. The film, is the sequel to Baahubali: The Beginning and it features major actors from Tollywood including, Prabhas, Anushka Shetty, Rana Daggubati and Sathyaraj. Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, was first premiered at the British Film Institute and is the first Telugu film, to be released in 4K high definition format. This epic movie is a must watch for all!
Toilet: Ek Prem Katha
Trendsetter of the year. After a very long dry run, the box office came to life by Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, directed by Shree Naryan Singh. The film is a satirical comedy in support of governmental campaigns to improve the sanitation conditions, with an emphasis on the eradication of open defecation, especially in rural areas. It features Akshay Kumar, Bhumi Pednekar in lead roles with Anupam Kher, Sudhir Pandey and Divyendu Sharma in supporting roles. It has grossed more than Rs. 216 crore worldwide.
Jolly LLB 2
Jollu LLB 2 is a black comedy, written and directed by Subhash Kapoor. The film stars Akshay Kumar, Huma Qureshi, Saurabh Shukla and Annu Kapoor in lead roles. This movie is one of the finest film, in terms of writing, direction, screenplay and script. Apart from a genre, that is not much accepted in India, Jolly LLB 2 went ahead to do a great job at the box office!
Badrinath ki Dulhania
Who doesn’t love a good Alia-Varun movie? Obviously it is a romantic comedy, directed by Shashank Khaitan but this movie is one of the most loved of 2017. The movie makes you laugh, the movie makes you cry. And the story seems real because of it’s characters, casting & acting. It is a Go-Go for all the Bollywood freaks!
The Ghazi Attack
This war film, is written and directed by Sanlap Reddy. It is about the mysterious sinking of PNS Ghazi during Indo-Pakistani War of 1971. The film features, Rana Daggubati, Taapsee Pannu, Kay Kay Menon and Atul Kulkarni. With the exact right amount of thrill and suspense, you should really watch this movie if you're interested in the history of India Pakistan War.
This Bollywood comedy-drama film is written by Zeenat Lakhani and directed by Saket Chaudhary. It features Irrfan Khan and Pakistani actress Saba Qamar in pivot roles. The story revolves around a rich businessman family living in Chandni Chowk, Delhi but the wife wish that their 5 year old daughter should be admitted to one of the top schools in Delhi. How they get her daughter in one of the top notch school and what they go through is what you'll see in the movie.
Aamir Khan creates magic, once again with Dangal fame Zaira Wasim. Secret Superstar is a musical drama film, written and directed by Advait Chandan. The film also features, Meher Vij and Raj Arjun. The film tells the coming-of-age story of a teenage girl who dreams of becoming a singer, and deals with feminism and domestic violence. Recently, Zaira Wasim won the National Child Award for Exceptional Achievement.
One of the finest Bollywood mystery-thriller film, directed by Abhay Chopra and produced by Red Chillies Entertainment in association with BR Studios & Dharma Productions. Inspired from the same name film of 1969, directed by Yash Chopra, this movie features Sidharth Malhotra, Akshaye Khanna and Sonakshi Sinha. If you like watching thriller movies, then you should go for this one!
Lipstick Under My Burkha
After a lot of troubles, this movie released in the theaters where it was loved by all. An Indian black comedy written and directed by Alankrita Shrivastava. The film features Konkona Sen Sharma, Ratna Pathak, Aahana Kumra and Plabita Borthakur in lead roles, along with Sushant Singh, Vikrant Massey, Shashank Arora, Vaibhav Tatwawaadi and Jagat Singh Solanki in supportive roles. The story narrates the lives of four women, their wishes and problems of life, and how they stand at crossroads with each other. The movie was premiered at the Tokyo and Mumbai Film Festivals, where it was honored by the Spirit of Asia Prize and the Oxfam Award for Best Film on Gender Equality.
Tiger Zinda Hai
Here's Salman Khan wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Tiger Zinda Hai, is the second instalment of the Tiger film series and the sequel to the 2012 hit film, Ek Tha Tiger. This upcoming action-thriller film is directed by Ali Abbas Zafar and features Salman Khan, Katrina Kaif in lead roles whereas Sajjad Delfrooz, Angad Bedi, Kumud Mishra and Nawab Shah in supporting roles. It is based on the 2014 abduction of Indian nurses of ISIL and is scheduled to release on December 22, 2017. DO NOT MISS THIS ONE!
2017 was a very average year for Bollywood, overall speaking. First few months were an absolute dry run as none of the movies were able to attract audience and complete predicted numbers. Superstar Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan also failed at the box- office with Tubelight and Jab Harry Met Sejal respectively. Moreover, everyone was eager for the release of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s grand period drama, Padmavati but due to some obstacles from specific religious groups that has also been delayed for next year.
Nonetheless, Bollywood saw some major grossing movies such as the remake of 1996 comedy film, Judwaa and the Golmaal series. Judwaa 2 starring Varun Dhawan, Jacqueline Fernandez and Taapsee Pannu managed to earn Rs. 225 crore at the box- office and Golmaal Again starring Ajay Devgn, Parineeti Chopra, Tabu, Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor, Shreyas Talpade, Kunal Khemu went ahead to break all records by earning Rs. 309 crore.
