World's most renowned comic-book writer, Stan Lee passed away on Monday afternoon, at the age of 95. However, it seems like the imaginary writer has achieved immortality on account of his priceless contribution to the world of entertainment.
Stan Lee’s Indian superhero Chakra made on-screen debut in November 2013 on Cartoon Network India
Stan Lee is the creator of almost all the Marvel characters and he will be known for it throughout the world. But little did anyone know that Stan also created an Indian superhero. Yes, you heard it right!
Marvel Comics creator Stan Lee created an Indian superhero, Chakra who is actually an Indian boy living in Mumbai, named Raju. Stan Lee's company POW! Entertainment collaborated with Sharad Devarajan and Gotham Chopra, the co-founders of Indian graphic entertainment company Graphic India for creating the Indian superhero.
Graphic India is the same animation company which helped in creating Baahubali animation series on Amazon Prime. Stan Lee penned down the character of Chakra in 2011 and there were also rumors of its movie being made under a renowned Indian production company. In November 2013, Chakra made its official release on Cartoon Network India.
The story of Chakra revolves around an Indian boy named Raju, who is a tech genius and fights evil in the suburbs of Mumbai, Maharashtra. Raju's life changes when he develops a technically advanced suit with the help of his technical guru, Dr. Singh which activates the mystical chakras of human body, unleashing powers and abilities.
Once suited up, Raju becomes Chakra for taking on the crime-lords in Mumbai. Chakra wore a blue tight-fitting spandex suit with a symbol of Chakra on his chest, as is common with western superheroes. Created by Stan Lee, Chakra's powers include invincibility (Raksha Chakra), ability to shoot powerful solar beams (Solar Chakra), ability to fly (Root Chakra) and others.
Soon after releasing the character on small-screen with Cartoon Network India, Lee and Devrajan were in talks with some of the most influential production firms of Bollywood for creating a movie on the same. As per our sources, Udaan director Vikramaditya Motwane was selected for the job and the film was supposed to be produced jointly by POW! Entertainment, Graphic India and Phantom Films.
Talking about Bollywood, Stan Lee once said: “I have always been a fan of Bollywood films and I’m really excited about launching Chakra the Invincible as my first Bollywood superhero movie.”
“We’ve set up some great meetings already with some of the most amazingly talented actors and directors in Indian cinema and I have no doubt that these individuals will help make the Chakra film a massive hit in India and around the globe,” Lee added.
On a related note, Stan Lee will once again be seen in a witty cameo in the upcoming Avengers movie. Marvel co-creator has already shot for the same. Stay tuned for more entertainment related updates.
