Singer and Rapper Benjamin Hammond "Ben" Haggerty who is popular by his stage name as Macklemore has confessions to make. We are amused.
If I stop prioritising the daily recovery program that I do to maintain sobriety, I will lose it all.
Macklemore has confessed that he did drugs to struggle with success when he performed at sold-out shows.
Sudden rise, sudden success turns around a person’s life like a whirlwind. Everything seems to be going in your favour. Every moment is made special for you. This phenomenon is hard to digest when things have been going awry and you become an overnight success. That's what happened to Macklemore.
Macklemore shed some light on the issues faced by artistes when they land straight into the limelight along with the present political weather in the US. He added that "adjusting to the fame is a condensed period and not staying sober has been the worst".
"There was a rapid transition and to have the world's eye on me all at once with back-to-back number ones, and all the accolades that came with it - I didn't know how to deal with it," Macklemore told a reputed magazine.
"I didn't know how to adjust, so I escaped. I think a lot of that peak season when I was around a bunch of people, doing sold out Arenas across the world was me isolating and using drugs. I used drugs to cope (with) it and to get out of my head," he added.
The "Thrift shop" superstar says that he knows this substance "addiction" can snatch away his success and careergraph from him.
