Alok Nath, the famous Babuji of Indian Television, has been accused of raping Vinta Nanda among few other women. Vinta, who is a famous Television producer and a writer, threw limelight on this event by sharing her #MeToo story on Facebook about Alok Nath harassing her when she was only 19 years old. “I hadn't just been raped, I was taken to my own house and had been brutalised," she said.
Few days later when this story came out, Alok Nath filed a defamation case against Vinta Nanda saying that the allegations on him are completely false and its time that he should take a serious action towards them.
Alok Nath was last seen in Luv Ranjan's 2018 hit movie, ‘Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety.’
Amidst the legal and emotional battles, Vinta Nanda decided to take this case on social media once again and wrote an open letter to the Prime Minister of India, Mr. Narendra Modi. In this open letter she wrote, "We pray in #Navratri to #Durga who was worshipped by #Ram before defeating the evil #Ravana. I request you to provide us with the space in which we will be heard. We never found courage to express ourselves until the #MeToo movement galvanised by honesty of a few, gave us confidence to speak & compelled our countrymen and women to listen to us."
She ends by requesting him for an intervention in favour of all the victims so that they feel more empowered, “Your intervention in favour of us, women who have voices and those who have the support of all pillars of society except the system that governs us, will provide the confidence, which those of us who are underserved and remain marginalised, need desperately.”
After the open letter, Vinta Nanda decided to file a police complaint against Alok Nath. “I have lodged a complaint, which has been accepted by the police. The officials have been really helpful and the process went easy and smooth,” she said about filing a complaint.
Two more actresses; Sandhya Mridul and Deepika Amin, have also accused Alok Nath for sexual harassment and misbehaviour on the sets.
