Ryan Coogler directorial American superhero film, Black Panther, has entered the Oscar race and Oprah Winfrey threw her support to the Academy voters reminding them about the worthiness of the movie for the award.
She stated, “if it worked for Obama, so why not Black Panther?” According to the reports, she told an audience including more than 100 Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science Members that the movie was “something more than a movie.” She said it was simply a game-changing movie for the viewers.
At a West Hollywood gathering that took place earlier this week Winfrey spoke to remind the audience about the worthiness of the movie for the award. The movie released back in the beginning of the year in February 2018 and since then it remains off the award list even after the commendable performances that the audience came to experience through it. Winfrey, however, thinks that the movie broke all the records and deserves Oscar as a payoff to the hard work and efforts put in.
She said in the gathering, “I just wanted to say that when I first saw Black Panther, I sent an email to my friend Bobby and said, ‘Hi Bobby! Just saw it. It’s worth everything I’ve heard and more.”
She also added, “‘a phenomenon in every way, on every level. Makes me tear up to think that little black children will grow up with ‘Wakanda forever.’ It’s game-changing, it’s pride-making, it’s dazzling, it’s phenomenal.’ That was my personal view”
The reports also point out that Winfrey could have additionally be seen endorsing other movies that dealt with racial relations. Some of these might have included, Green Book, Widows, Sorry to Bother You, If Beale Street Could Talk and BlacKkKlansman. Celebrated TV host told the audience about her admiration for her movie saying, “I also know that throngs and throngs and so many people came, and came with their families, and then they went back and they got more family members, and then they went back and told their co-workers and their friends, because everybody recognized that something bigger than a movie was happening up on that screen.”
Winfrey was accompanied by Ryan Coogler and stars Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan and Daniel Kaluuya to the event. She was invited by the Disney chief Bog Iger, with whom she shares a friendly relationship for more than 30 years.
