For all the insomniacs out there who sleep for less than 7 hours a day, let us tell you that if you want to keep your heart younger, do sleep for at least 7 hours a day. Taking an adequate sleep for 7 hours also decreases the risks for cardiovascular disease.
Sleeping for 7 hours keeps your heart younger
It was found out that the heart age of the people who sleep for seven hours at night is the lower as compared to those who don’t. Seven hours sleep is enough to keep a person’s heart healthy, not more than that and not less than that.
In a study which was conducted with 12,775 participants between the age group 30-74 years, the participants reported their sleep duration which was further categorized into five categories- five hours or less, six, seven, eight, nine and/or more hours of sleep. The data was then examined and the results showed that mean adjusted excess heart age was lowest among adults who reported sleeping seven hours per 24-hour period.
Experts say that "These results are important because they demonstrate a quantitative method for the inclusion of sleep duration in the establishment and communication of cardiovascular risk for individuals".
