Cats are the furry felines that we all know and have loved. If you are a cat lover, you definitely consider cats as the most wonderful creatures in the World. Cats are typically referred to as either domestic or purebred. Domestic cats, on one hand, do not have a pedigree history of their lineage, while purebred cats do.

Cats are one of, if not the most, popular pet in the World!

There are about 500 million domestic cats in the World. Some of these breeds have been around for many years and thus have gained popularity on the basis of their features, personality traits and on their uniqueness in physical appearances.

Persian cat

Persian cats, commonly known as the 'smushed face' cats are characterised by their round face and their beautiful fur coats. The cat's coat demands regular grooming, or else it will lead to matting. The breed is known for its loving and devoted nature. The Persian cat is also known by the names like Persian Longhair, the Iranian cat or the Shirazi cat.

Siamese cat

This breed of cat is originally originated in Thailand and has led to the creation of many other breeds such as the Oriental Shorthair, Himalayan and Sphynx. There are mainly two types of Siamese cats- one with the 'apple-shaped' head and chubbier body and the other one with the larger head and comparatively slender body.

Ragdoll cat

Ragdoll cats are one of the most popular domesticated cat breeds who derive their name through their obedient temperament. Ragdoll cats' appearance looks similar to that of the Siamese cats. These cats have blue eyes with a personality similar to that of a dog.

Abyssinian cat

Abyssinian, one of the most popular breeds of shorthair cat in the USA, is originally from Ethiopia. This breed of cat has a typical red/orange coloured coat. The coat is medium-length, dense, and silky to the touch. The Abyssinian cat has coat that are unusual enough to grab your attention. These breeds are quite active, playful and they love the company of people around them.

Sphynx cat

The Sphynx cat is popular for its lack of coat. If you are looking for a cat that doesn't shed its coat, then Sphynx is the perfect choice for you. Because the sphynx cats have no fur to keep them warm they huddle up against other animals and people. They even tend to cuddle up and sleep with their owners. This breed is extremely active and social.

The distinctive qualities of these cats have never failed to leave their paw prints on the cat lovers.
