Much awaited hip hop based movie Gully Boy has come up with another song release named Doori. The song follows the consistency and stars Ranveer Singh rapping throughout the video. Composed by Rishi Rich, Ranveer can be seen in an intense and serious mood. For the lyrics of the song, Javed Akhtar and Divine have collaborated forming a peculiar combination. The lyrics of the song give a glimpse of the dark reality of poverty that many suffer but none pays attention to.
Artists from two different genres give us a beautiful song with amazing lyrics that are hard to ignore. There comes a line in the song “Right mein building aasmano ko chori/Left mein bachhi bhooki sadko pe sori,” which just gives the listeners goosebumps. In the video, lead actor, Ranveer Singh is glimpsed amidst the streets where poverty flows.
As the song begins, and the actor tries to record the song, the audience gets to see lead actress Alia Bhatt in the video. Talking about the socio-economic gap of our country, the song is something that actually deserves the viewers’ attention. In the trailer of the movie, Ranveer, initially criticises some of the popular raps by saying, “You call this rap - check out my car, my shoes, my liquor, my girl?"
Talking about a genuine and most disastrous problem of our country, poverty, Doori is the song that will drench your heart in silent agony. Probably, it might even be an inspiration for the Indian rappers to do a better job.
Shot between the ragpickers, daily wage labourers, street dwellers and homeless people, the song shares a good flow with an amazing picturisation. Different from the genre of hip hop music, the song leaves its listeners with melancholy through its lyrics. The way how Ranveer Singh carries his style replicating Divine is something that leaves us speechless.
On a relatable note, Zoya Akhtar’s directorial Gully Boy stars Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt in the lead roles accompanied by Kalki Koechlin and Siddhant Chaturvedi. After the big blockbuster, Simmba, Ranveer’s Gully Boy is set to hit the theatres on 14th February.
