In earlier reports, pop singer Rihanna rejected National Football League's proposal of performing during the halftime at the 53rd Super Bowl. Reports also added that Rihanna rejected the offer in support of former National Football League quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who took a knee during the national anthem in protest against racial injustice.

Ending all speculations, NFL has officially announced that Girls Like You singer Maroon 5, rapper Travis Scott and Big Boi will be performing at the Super Bowl LIII in Atlanta. Six-times Grammy nominee rapper Travis will perform with the band where native performer Big Boi will be hosting the ceremony at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

53rd Super Bowl ceremony will commence on 3rd Feruary 2019 in Atlanta. Also, soon after Rihanna's rejection from performing during the halftime of Super Bowl, several other artists have refused to perform this year.

In an appeal against racial injustice, thousands of people signed a petition to urge Maroon 5 for not performing at the event. A page of the petition read: “Kaepernick risked his career to take a knee for equality, and the NFL punished him for it. Until the league changes their policy and supports players’ constitutional right to protest, no artists should agree to work with the NFL. Join me in asking Maroon 5 to drop out of the 2019 Super Bowl halftime show.”

Goosebumps singer-rapper added: “I back anyone who takes a stand for what they believe in. I know being an artist that it’s in my power to inspire. So before confirming the Super Bowl Halftime performance, I made sure to partner with the NFL on this important donation. I am proud to support Dream Corps and the work they do that will hopefully inspire and promote change.”

On a related note, actor-singer Justin Timberlake performed at the Super Bowl halftime show. Numerous international singers and performers have performed during the Super Bowl including Bruno Mars, Beyonce, Madonna, Lady Gaga, The Who, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Prince, Paul McCartney, U2, Diana Ross and Michael Jackson.
