Pritish Nandy and Anurag Kashyap are facing a row for a movie title Womaniya. According to a report in Mumbai Mirror, the two are going through a fight over a title called Womaniya. Anurag was earlier to start the shooting for the film from 10th February with Taapsee Pannu and Bhumi Pednekar as the lead actresses of the movie.
As per the reports, Anurag was soon to start the shooting of the film until it became a prey for the argument for the title of the movie. Anurag earlier had decided the term to be the title of his film Gangs of Wasseypur which even has a song named Womaniya. He said that he holds the Intellectual Property Rights for it. However, when the maker tried to register the title it came to their notice that it has already been registered with Pritish Nandy Communications Ltd.
Speaking to the tabloid he said, “I don’t even know if it’s legal to do this. It’s like encroaching on someone’s property, then asking for an obscene amount of money to get off it. We have been politely requesting Nandy for the title for a very long time and have even consulted lawyers on the matter. We’ve been told that no one can hoard a title. But to get a censor certificate, the producers’ association has to register the title which makes the law contradictory.”
Pritish Nandy, on the other hand, is not backing off in the row. He said that the title has already been taken by Pritish Nandy Communications Ltd after his company registered it with the trade body, Indian Motion Pictures Producer’s Association and Trade Mark registry, a Government of India body.
“Both IMPPA and FMC (Film Makers Combine) have written to Anurag Kashyap several times asking him not to use the title Womaniya illegally since it’s owned by PNC.”
Womaniya is said to be directed by Tushar Hiranandani.
