BGMC earned Rs 6.76 crore on the first day while Manto earned Rs. 50 lakhs.

Beginning with Shraddha Kapoor and Shahid Kapoor starrer Batti Gul Meter Chalu which has collected Rs. 14.72 till now, is expected to grow and attract more audience. Bollywood Hungama reporter and film trade analyst Taran Adarsh recently tweeted that Batti Gul Meter Chalu “needs miraculous growth on Day 3 – in double digits – for a respectable weekend total.”

Talking about Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s Manto, the movie faced a low start and collected Rs. 50 lakhs and Rs. 70 lakhs, on the first and second day respectively. However, Manto is expected to witness growth due to good-word-of-mouth.

Shahid Kapoor, who is gearing up for his next venture, the Hindi remake of Telugu blockbuster Arjun Reddy, said in an interview that he "wants to grow and reach out to a wider audience. I want to tell stories that are new, different and exciting without having to sacrifice on any creative cravings that the team might have. It is a tough combination.”

Based on the life of the renowned author, Saadat Hasan Manto the film is set in the pre-independence period of India and talks about how a new nation is born- Pakistan. Irrespective of the Hindu-Muslim tensions, Manto stays in Bombay, where his heart belongs and spends the last years of his life in fighting legal battles to defend his right to write.

Whereas, Batti Gul Meter Chalu revolves around the issue of inflated electricity bills in rural India and features Shahid Kapoor, Shraddha Kapoor, Divyendu Sharma, and Yami Gautam.

Both the movies are attracting their own set of target audience but growth is expected. Let's see how the first week goes down for the two.
