Six years ago, Farhan Akhtar and Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra gave us one of the best sport movies ever made in the history of Hindi cinemas, Bhaag Mikha Bhaag. The film was impactful, motivational and was critically as well as commercially successful at the box office. The ace actor-director duo have once again agreed to re-unite for yet another sports drama, Toofan.
Few days ago, it was confirmed that Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra will be directing Toofan but today, famous film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared on his twitter that Farhan Akhtar will be playing the lead in this upcoming sports film, where he will be essaying the role of a boxer. Taran wrote, “IT'S OFFICIAL... After #BhaagMilkhaBhaag, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra and Farhan Akhtar reunite for #Toofan... A heartfelt story of a boxer... Mehra will direct the film.”
Wednesday morning, Akhtar as well took to his Instagram and made the big announcement. He shared a throwback picture of him and Mehra, captioning it, “Thrilled to share that 6 years after Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, @rakeyshommehra and I are reuniting to create #Toofan .. a heartfelt story of a boxer. Hope for your best wishes as we embark on this new journey. Love”
Unlike Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, which was a film based on the life story of former Indian sprinter Milkha Singh, Toofan is going to be a fictional story. Apart from Farhan, Zaira Wasim of Secret Superstar has also been finalised to play a pivotal role in the film. Toofan has been scripted by Anjum Rajabali and will be produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar under their film production banner of Excel Entertainment in association with Mehra-owned ROMP Pictures.
A source has reported that Farhan fell in love with the script as soon as he first red it and is indeed very excited to work with director Mehra after good long six years. The actor will soon be starting with his extensive training to become a boxer; Toofan sounds like another master-piece in making!
