Before the release of Periodical-drama movie, Thugs of Hindostan, trade analysts were pretty clear that it is going to be a massive hit on the box office. Also, the stagnant cast of the movie including Aamir Khan and Amitabh Bachchan, made the audience believe that ToH is worth watching.
Produced by Yash Raj Films and directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya, Thugs of Hindostan fails in engaging the audience
But soon, Vijay Krishna Acharya's directorial released and crashed terrible at the Indian box-office. CGI was poor and in a way repelled the audience. As a result, a movie made with over Rs 300 crore, turned out to be a flop.
A source said: "As is the practice with YRF, the studio had taken on the distribution responsibilities. The exhibitors agreed to the minimum-guarantee deal as they expected handsome profits from the big-budget film, but the tables have turned. So, we are planning to approach the sub-distributors (YRF) to get a refund. We hope YRF, Aamir Khan and Amitabh Bachchan will help us in this situation, else there is a possibility of a few theatres having to even shut down."
For a fact, some of our reports suggest that many theaters are planning to put down Aamir Khan and Big B starrer Thugs of Hindostan on account of its reviews. Sources also add that exhibitors have lost over 60 per cent of their invested money on the YRF's project.
In the past, other actors including Shah Rukh and Salman Khan have also dealt with such massive flops by compensating the exhibitors. Earlier, SRK generated refunds for 'Jab Harry Met Sejal' and likewise, Salman had to pay off the investors for Tubelight.
Will Yash Raj Films and Aamir Khan settle the lost of investors who invested over Rs 300 crore collectively? As per now, nothing yet has been announced from the makers or actors of ToH.
On a related note, Thugs of Hindostan reached the theaters on 8th November 2018. Along with Aamir and Amitabh Bachchan, ToH also features Fatima Sana Shaikh, Katrina Kaif in pivotal characters.
