Meghna Gulzar is the best director to work with and Deepika Padukone is the best actress in the industry; so can you guess what happens when the two come together for a project? Well, it is true! The two ladies are collaborating together for the biopic of an acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal. Also, Deepika will be producing this venture.

Laxmi was attacked at the age of 15!

Bollywood new found love biopics are nothing new. With movies like Gold, Sanju and Raazi, even the audiences are attracted by this genre of movies. Laxmi was attacked at the age of 15 and since then, she has been working for the welfare of other acid attack survivors.

"When I heard this story, I was deeply moved as it's not just one of violence but of strength and courage, hope and victory. It made such an impact on me, that personally and creatively, I needed to go beyond and so the decision to turn producer," Deepika said in an interview with a leading daily.

"Using Laxmi's story as a lens, we are attempting to explore these aspects and the consequences of acid-related violence in our society. This is what makes this must-told story relevant. Awareness is the first step towards change," said Meghna Gulzar, who is known for directing movies like Talwar. Talking about casting Deepika Padukone in the movie, Gulzar said, "I was instinctively convinced that Deepika would do justice to the character and the story. Also, her physicality matched with what I'd imagined for Laxmi's character. I'm grateful and encouraged that she was so spontaneous in her decision to do the film."

On a related note, Laxmi was making headlines recently as she was facing some financial struggles. Upon learning of her misfortunes, Akshay Kumar even transferred Rs 5 lakh into her account so that she can find her feet.
