Priyanka Chopra is no tiny name in Bollywood or across waters. The lady has written her name in golden letters all over the west with her popular TV series Quantico. In spite of being a household name there, PeeCee has been denied movies because of her skin colour.
Quantico season 3 will hit the screens on April 26th on ABC.
In a recent interview to Instyle Magazine, Priyanka opened up about the racist experiences she has had in the country and even revealed that she was once denied a role in a movie simply because she is brown.
Priyanka said, “I was out for a movie, and somebody from the studio called one of my agents and said, ‘She has the wrong—what word did they use?— physicality’.”
She further said, “So in my defence as an actor, I’m like, ‘Do I need to be skinnier? Do I need to get in shape? Do I need to have abs?’ Like, what does ‘wrong physicality’ mean? And then my agent broke it down for me. Like, ‘I think, they meant that they wanted someone who’s not brown.’ It affected me.”
Priyanka also revealed that in the west people don’t talk about pay disparity as out rightly as we do in India. She said that she herself is very careful about her money as she has worked very hard to earn it. However, she claims to burn plastic when she is emotional.
She said, “And when I mean burn plastic, I don’t go, like, shopping at Saks,”—she pauses—“I’ll buy a car.”
