Times Up movement was long due in India. Every day new #MeToo storing are pouring in and are affecting all the industries whether it is entertainment, journalism, corporate or even political.
What began with Tanushree Dutta’s bold move to put allegations against Nana Patekar led to unleashing many sexual predators. Babuji Alok Nath, filmmaker Vikas Behl and Subhash Kapoor, comedian Utsav Chakraborty, actor Rajat Kapoor, journalist Gautam Adhikari amongst others have been accused of sexual harassment.
Joining the queue is Singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya who is known for making rude and pointless comments make another one about this revolutionary movement. 90’s popular singer was accused by a flight attendant few days ago for sexually harassing her in 1998.
The victim says they were at a pub of a well known hotel in Kolkata about 20 years ago when Abhijeet forcefully tried to kiss her and started nibbling her ear in the public. The lady got uncomfortable and informed the managers of that pub, she adds that the singer was refrained from the club for one month.
After this woman’s statement to the media, Abhijeet Bhattacharya jumped and responds with a ridiculous statement. He said, “I wasn’t born at that time.” Like seriously? It is funny because this statement came out of a 60 year old man!
He added, “Somebody told me over the call. I was not born at that time. I have never gone to pubs in my life. You’ll never find me at any page 3 or filmy parties. My name sells. If someone’s benefiting from it, good. Sometimes earning their bread and butter with my name, its fine.”
Singer went ahead and said even more disgusting words about the whole #MeToo movement and also insulted the victims who are courageous enough to call out their harassers. “Most of the people who are coming out right now are dirty, ugly people. Koi mota hai koi patla hai. No one deserves the attention. Just to grab some attention they are coming out. Most of the fat and ugly girls are blaming.“
While giving these statements to a news correspondent in a live news channel discussion he repeatedly used words like ‘ugly ‘and ‘fat ‘for the survivors which left even the panel full of women stumped. Despite of the journalist who kept reminding him that this is not a joke he repeatedly kept chanting "I don’t care".
Comedian Neeti Palta who was part of the news panel while taking Abhijeet’s interview on TV commented: ” Would he (Abhijeet Bhattacharya) have liked these allegations coming in from prettier women.”
Men like Abhijeet Bhattacharya are a disappointment to our society, indeed.
