After a long and dark wait, Nawazuddin Siddiqui starrer crime thriller film Monsoon Shootout has finally seen some daylight. Directed by Amit Kumar and produced by Guneet Monga, Anurag Kashyap, Arun Rangachari and Vivek Rangachari, the film promises to be another gripping noir-thriller that the above luminaries are famous for.
The film was screened at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival
Besides Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Monsoon Shootout also stars Tannishtha Chatterjee, Neeraj Kabi, Sreejita De and Vijay Varma.
Amit Kumar had previously directed a short film titled Bypass starring Nawazuddin and Irrfan Khan. He had also assisted British filmmaker Asif Kapadia on Warrior.
Addressing comparisons between Monsoon Shootout Akira Kurosawa’s 1950 black-and-white film Rashomon, Amit had earlier said, “It is kind of like that, but not directly Rashomon. The idea is to revisit an event – to expand time. I was first inspired by this concept when, as a student at the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), I saw the short film An Occurrence At Owl Creek Bridge. Monsoon Shootout is about the few seconds it takes a cop to decide whether or not to shoot a gangster. It is about expanding that concept of time by looking at what is going on in his mind. The lead role of the policeman is played by Vijay Varma who I met three years ago as an acting graduate out of the FTII. The other main role of the gangster is played by Nawazuddin Siddiqui.”
The film will hit the theaters a week before Salman Khan's Tiger Zinda Hai, on December 15, 2017.
