In recent developments, BJP-government Gujarat has joined Rajasthan and Madhya pradesh and mulled over a ban on Padmavati. They are in between an aggressive election campaign between the Congress and BJP, which has governed it for 22 years.
Chief Minister Vijay Rupani said that the Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Shahid Kapoor shall not release in Gujarat as “it hurts sentiments of Rajput community”.
"There is a lot of sensitivity in Kshatriya and Rajput communities with regards to certain depiction of history. We respect their feelings and with elections on the anvil, the state government does not want any controversy.
Besides that the law and order is also our responsibility, so we have decided that we will not allow release of movie 'Padmavati' in Gujarat," he said. Rupani also asserted that the ban was not only limited to the state assembly polls which will be held next month "but till the controversies subside".
Moreover, the film has been delayed as of now. However the makers were somewhat a bit relaxed when the Supreme Court rejected two requests to ban the film, stating that it is upto the Censor Board to review the film and certify for release.
