A real life inspiration comes to an end: R.I.P Stephen Hawking

Feature

Unfortunately, Genius Professor Stephen Hawking took his last breath in his motorized wheel-chair today. British theoretical physicist, cosmologist, author and Director of Research at the Centre for Theoretical Cosmology within the University of Cambridge, Professor Stephen was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) at the age of 21 and was fighting with the disease since then.

Professor Hawking was told that he wouldn't survive more than two years yet he defied medical science for many years by surviving till the age of 76.

This man is nothing less than a real-life inspiration which has come to an end. Therefore, here is everything you need to know about his eccentric life:

Born British

Professor Hawking was born in Oxford, England on 8th January 1942. He was the fourth child of biologist, Frank Hawking and a Medical Research Secretary, Isobel Hawking. Stephen went to St. Albans School for primary education. However, you would be surprised to know that during the days of his elementary education, Stephen was not academically at par. In fact, he used to be one of the most poor performing students.

Higher Education

Although Stephen was not good in his school days but he was fond of the board games and a born scientist. Professor Hawking received a scholarship to attend University College, Oxford, from which he graduated with a degree in Natural Science. He soon began graduate research in cosmology at the Cambridge University.

Bad News

At the age of 21, Stephen was diagnosed with a rare disease known as ALS or Lou Gehrig's disease. After which he was given two years to live. No one knew that Stephen would be able to defy medical science by surviving till the age of 76. He then channelized all of his energy in exploring the unexplored.

Unbelievable Achievements

Professor Hawking has the credit of postulating numerous theories and hence, it won't be wrong to say that his work was keeping him alive. Hawking extended the singularity theorem concepts first explored in his doctoral thesis. In 1970, Hawking postulated what became known as the second law of black hole dynamics that the event horizon of a black hole can never get smaller. His contribution in the field of science is indeed, remarkable.

Second Marriage

Not many would know but Stephen Hawking got married not once but twice. Yes, he again got married in the year 1995 with his nurse Elaine Mason. However, he again got divorced in the year 2007.

The Theory of Everything

In the year 2014, Hawking’s life is celebrated in the Oscar-winning biopic, The Theory of Everything, based on the memoir Travelling to Infinity- My Life with Stephen, by Jane Hawking. And he took his last breath on 14th March 2018.

Professor Stephen Hawking was a huge inspiration to everyone and this man showed us that learning and growing must never stop (even if you are left with only 2 years to live). Stay tuned for more updates.
