After Padmaavat, Deepika to be next seen in Vishal Bhardwaj's Rani

Deepika Padukone is currently riding high on the success of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Padmaavat, which has earned Rs. 260 crore in the domestic box office. But that does not stop Deepika from pursuing her future projects. She will next been seen in Vishal Bhardwaj's film, opposite Piku co-star Irrfan Khan, and the makers have finally release the title of the movie!

The film will go on floors by early March in Mumbai

The film is based on the life of Ashraf Khan Alias Sapna Didi, a feared mafia queen from the 80’s, the film will be called Rani. Spilling the beans, a source revealed, “Deepika has already started the preparation for her role of a Mafia queen and she is quite particular that she gets the tonality and body language as close to the late Sapna Didi who was once a terror for other gangsters. The shoot will begin by early March in Mumbai. After Padmaavat, her fans will love to see her in a whole new avatar of a lady don and hence she is really working meticulously to strike the right chord.”

The film is basically an adaptation from Hussain Zaidi and Jane Borges’s book Mafia Queens of Mumbai. The book profiles women criminals of the Mumbai, and includes the story of Ashraf Khan, a Muslim widow who in 1986 conspired to kill Dawood Ibrahim.

Vishal Bhardwaj’s last directorial outing was Rangoon starring Kangana Ranaut, Shahid Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan.

He has previously worked with Irrfan Khan on Maqbool and 7 Khoon Maaf.
