Dhadak Movie Review: Amidst the royal heritage of Udaipur, Janhvi & Ishaan dare to do something forbidden

Welcoming new talent into the industry is never dull. Welcoming new talent who are born with acting in their blood is even better. So, like every Friday we have a new movie to discuss with you but there’s something special about this one. July 20th, 2018 marks the release of Dharma ProductionsDhadak; the remake of Marathi blockbuster movie Sairat and also the debut movie of Shahid Kapoor’s half-brother Ishaan Khatter and late legendary actress Janhvi Kapoor.

Hailing from Udaipur, Dhadak brings us the story of the daughter of an influential politician Ratan Singh, Parathavi and the son of a normal hotel owner, Madhukar. Cliché alert: Parathavi and Madhukar fell deeply in love and their innocent love is not cherished by Janhvi aka Parathavi’s politician father. After romancing and dancing their hearts out in the first half, the movie takes a drastic turn when the innocent love-affair of Ishaan and Janhvi is discovered by the elders.

Besides electrifying dance numbers and Janhvi’s first-ever on-screen lip-lock with Beyond the Clouds actor Ishaan Khattar may amuse a few but the story will surely fail to impress most of the audience. The second half begins with the greatest query; whether the duo will cowardly elope or fight against all the odds for keeping their love alive.

And guess what Madhukar and Parathavi decide? They (obviously) decide to stay back and fight with the evil society in order to protect their innocent-love. Well, this is not at all new or out-of-the-box but Janhvi’s heart-winning dance moves and emotions along with Ishaan’s die-hard performance will leave you stunned.

Dhadak has the biggest disadvantage of being compared with Sairaat at every step. Director Shashank Khaitan has done a fair job with improvising the climax but all the other major sequences remain the same. People who’ve watched Sairaat will have mixed responses but I’m sure, for all of you who haven’t watched it, you’re going to love this movie for the lead actors. Nagraj Manjule will be a proud mentor after watching Dhadak.

Ishaan Khatter and Janhvi kapoor, both are absolutely exceptional. From the very beginning to the last second of the runtime, there’s no way you will be able to take your eyes off them. They own this movie and they will only shine bright, and bright and bright! While Ishaan can be called a natural, an expressionist in front of the camera, Janhvi is no less. There's just something about her in all the emotional scenes that leave you jaw-dropped! The supporting cast of the movie is no less and their honest contribution and acting is quite visible on-screen.

Shashank Khaitan is a winner. He was given a pull palate and without any doubt, Shashank has utilized it to the fullest. Music of the movie is spectacular. From the title track, Dhadak to all the groovy and romantic songs, this movie is as fresh as it could be.

Dhadak is all hearts and it deserves no less than 6/10. Hello! That's very good for a first-timer.
