American singer, actress JLo returned to the big screens as a lead actress after 3-long-years in Peter Segal's directorial Second Act. On The Floor singer was last seen in 2015 action-thriller Lila & Eve.
Second Act starring Jennifer, Vanessa Hudgens, Leah Remini and Treat Williams, is based on the ages-old conflict between the street smart and book smart. As we all know, talent is often god-gifted and has nothing to do with your degree.
Unfortunately, a certified degree is considered much more valuable than experience and this is what JLo starrer Second Act is all about.
The story of STX Films' Second Act is centralized over a working woman, Maya being played by Lopez who works as an assistant manager at a supermarket. The movie begins as a hard-working Maya is desperate for a promotion but due to her poor academical background she is put on hold. Although, Maya's work is rather commendable but just because she is an 'under-grad', she fails to achieve more.
Then what happens next is rather predictable than engaging; Son of Maya's friend being played by Leah Remini arranges for a fake resume for The Next Boy actress. Soon after JLo gets her resume filled with fake achievements, she lands herself a job as a production development consultant for a cosmetics company.
And as expected, Lopez aka Maya proves to be an outstanding employee and a valuable addition to the company yet when people find out that her resume is fake, things go out of hand.
Let's just say that the makers had some slots to add a slight suspense but they failed. The movie is filled with several lags and seems boring.
As per our final verdict, Jennifer Lopez and Vanessa Hudgens starring Second Act is not worth the watch. Watch only if you are a die-hard fan of JLo. We will like to award to 3 out of 10 stars to Second Act.
